The Vonada Stone Company works with native stone, now known as post rock.  We specialize in engraving names and places on this stone, along with graphics of all types, customizing to your specifications.

What is "Post Rock?"

In the late 1800's the stone was known as native stone and the fenceposts made from it were just called stone posts, as they truly were.
 
This stone is found on or near the top of the hills located in the center range of the Smoky Hills of Central Kansas.  This layer of stone is the upper most part of the Greenhorn Limestone formation.  There is only one workable layer and it varies in thickness from 8 to 12 inches.

We welcome visitors to our store, to see what we can do with stone.  Many visitors come to see the artwork that is engraved on the stone and to order one of their own.
 
To see how the stone is split, dressed, and prepared for the stone masons we conduct demonstration tours.  Or you can take a self-driving tour of a small stone quarry.  Please feel free to ask or call for directions.
